“Barney” Award
Barney Mahoney was a past officer and board member of KHEIA and is in the KHEIA Hall of Fame. Barney was very active in KHEIA until health issues made that impossible. He could always be counted on to work behind the scenes to get tasks done, whether it was cooking meat for the Instructor Academy, or doing the juggling act that was sometimes necessary in scheduling the KHEIA pellet ranges for activities across Kansas.
The KHEIA Board has made the decision to give a special award to those people that work behind the scenes to make our organization great and support Hunter Education. Suggestions for winners could come from those working in the hunting/shooting industry, spouses of active board members, or friends of hunter education just to name a few. Just as the Emmy Awards and Oscars have their symbolic trophies, the ‘Barney’ will be no different. A ‘Baby Buffalo’ will be given to the recipients which is a smaller version of the award presented to our Hall of Fame winners.
